Written somewhere around 2000, a pop song about longing to get beyond religion and all its distortions and violence, but to still find a way to touch spiritual truths that connect us all. Meditation and love are both part of it, it seems. Also music. I don't even know if it is truly possible--but I think it's good to keep alive the dream of a universal language.

What a warlike people
Shooting from the steeple
With the mysteries and labyrnths of peace
Every idealization
Is a holy vision
Or a trap set to hold us in place

And the peaceful people
Who are the peaceful people?
Most of us are boiling, bitter with rage
Is there a solution?
Any new religion?
We are passing through an hourglass of faith

It’s a dream
Better breathe into it
It’s a task
Better roll up your sleeves

In a conversation
Or a meditation
Circle back to the love
Oh the love
Universal language
How I yearn to sing it
From the heart rising up
Rising up

I have been writing songs most of my life. A good bit of recording and performing too. Money comes and goes, but the muse is precious and timeless. I pray that my songs help people through darkness as well as celebrate the light. This music is a village and I am not alone. I am deeply grateful to the many people who have helped me birth these songs in so many ways. You are the Love! ... more
